I went to Camden Town, London last night with my brother-in-law. It’s the artsy, ‘cool’ place to go after work for a drink. We headed to a pub called Barfly to watch a band who I’d never heard of. You know, going to support mates of a mate.
And as we stood there in the upstairs of this live-venue joint, in the midst of a throng of friends and unknowns, I realized that Jesus is in the most unlikely places.
The band belted out their line-up in rocking style reminiscent of Cold Play on steroids, and a lyric struck a chord with me. “You are my anchor” And BANG! Jesus was there, in that moment, to those people, whether they wanted it or not – they felt the necessity of having an anchor that only Jesus could be.
He’s disguised, as an up-and-coming rock band, as a carpenter, as a teacher… but he’s among us, working, speaking, transforming from the inside out as our anchor.
May we all continue to awaken daily to the finding of Jesus in unlikely places.
